5 Secrets to Start a Dropshipping Business and ACTUALLY Be Successful


Starting a dropshipping business can be a daunting task, especially when you don’t know where to start or if you’ll even be successful.

I’ve been there. When I first started my dropshipping business, I was filled with uncertainty about which steps to take to actually build a business that made money. Until I finally learned the secrets of creating a successful dropshipping brand, which is what I’m sharing with you here!

SECRET NUMBER 1: HOW TO DO MARKET RESEARCH LIKE A PRO TO FIND TRENDING PRODUCTS WITH HIGH PROFIT MARGINS


Doing market research to figure out which products you should sell is super important— having the right products at the right time can make or break your store’s profitability.

It can be insightful to use Google Trends to analyze search volumes for keywords to gain a sense of what is currently popular. Also, keep an eye on what’s trending on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

Another great strategy is to watch what your competitors are doing— find successful dropshipping stores in your niche and look at which products are currently doing well for them. Did you know there’s a way to see all the ads your competitor is currently running on Facebook? Go to any Facebook Business Page, click on their “About” tab, click “Page Transparency,” click “See All,” and then click “Go To Ad Library.” This will give you access to a live view of all the Facebook ads currently running in their ad account, which will give you insights into which products are doing well right now.

However, my favorite way of finding the best and most in-demand products is by using a directory. A directory is a resource that gives you a list of top-rated suppliers, finds you fast-selling and profitable products to sell, and helps you to easily connect online with the suppliers of your choice. It’s easy to use and it does the market research for you, simplifying your job as a business owner. After trying many directories over the years, this one is my favorite.


SECRET NUMBER 2: HOW TO FIND TRUSTWORTHY SUPPLIERS WITH HIGH-QUALITY PRODUCTS THAT SHIP QUICKLY


Choosing which suppliers to order from and which products to sell can be a tricky puzzle to solve. You want your products to be high-quality with fast shipping times, but it’s not always easy to find the right suppliers.

When I first started dropshipping, I placed an order from my own store to see how long it would take to ship and to feel the quality of the products. It took the order three weeks to arrive, and when I finally received my order, the products were poor quality. This bothered me— I wanted to be confident in what I was selling, and more importantly, I wanted to be proud of my business.

After trying multiple platforms such as Zendrop, DSers, and Spocket without seeing much success, I started doing tons of research on how to find the best, top-tier suppliers. I ended up finding a platform that works with the best suppliers in the industry, prioritizes quality products, and has great profits margins. This was when my store started to really take off.

SECRET NUMBER 3: WHERE TO DISCOVER GREAT INFORMATION ON DROPSHIPPING FOR BEGINNERS


Having access to up-to-date, valuable information is crucial as a beginner, as it will decrease your learning curve and the time it takes to get a profitable store up and running.

The top three sources I recommend to find useful info on dropshipping are Shopify, Hostinger Tutorials, and Printify. These websites offer free guides and tutorials on tons of dropshipping topics. On their website, click on the Search icon and type in “Dropship”— this will pull up an abundance of helpful articles.

Another place to find valuable insights on dropshipping as a beginner is on YouTube— my favorite dropshipping YouTubers are Ac Hampton and The Ecom King. Both of these channels post often, offer meaningful guidance, and keep up-to-date with current trends in dropshipping. I’ve found some great ideas from their videos!

A further key resource that I recommend for beginners is this online course. It teaches you everything you need to build, launch, and grow a successful e-commerce business from scratch. You can choose between a course that shows you how to build a dropshipping store on Shopify or a course that teaches you how to start selling private label products on Amazon. I took the one focused on Shopify, and I learned a ton of great info.


SECRET NUMBER 4: THE MOST VALUABLE TRAINING I’VE TAKEN IN E-COMMERCE, WHICH HELPED ME GET MY BUSINESS OFF THE GROUND & SCALED TO SIX FIGURES


I’ll be honest: there was one resource in particular that did the most in helping me to scale my business to what it is today.

SECRET NUMBER 5: HOW TO KEEP UP WITH WHICH PRODUCTS ARE CURRENTLY SELLING WELL & FORECAST FUTURE TRENDS


Google Trends is a great tool for watching trends; it helps e-commerce entrepreneurs discover profitable niches, find converting products, and track demand.

It offers information on the popularity of a specific niche and its potential future demand, allowing you to identify upward trends and capitalize on them to boost your sales.

The graphs give clues of whether a market is evergreen or is experiencing a trending phase. For example, the Gardening niche experiences a seasonal boost during the springtime months— you can take advantage of this and offer gardening products during the spring.

Search Term: “Gardening” on Google Trends; Set Time Range to “Past 12 Months”

By contrast, looking at the Office Supplies niche shows that it’s an evergreen niche— office supplies are in demand all year long.

In summary, you can identify seasonal spikes and take advantage of these opportunities, as well as find consistently profitable niches to target throughout the year.

Once you find your niche, your next job is to find which are the most popular products within that niche. For example, Office Supplies are a trending category, with staplers being a subcategory. If you search for Staplers on Google Trends, you find that staplers are on trend throughout the year. Therefore, you’re on point with what’s trending and you can sell staplers in your store. 

Search Term: “Staplers” on Google Trends; Set Time Range to “Past 12 Months”

Continue to search for different products to find which ones are in-demand over time. You can use Google Trends to find several trending products within a lucrative niche, giving you a well-rounded dropshipping store.
